This 12-day Moroccan adventure is a classic “grand tour,” designed to immerse you in the country’s incredible diversity. The journey moves at a energetic pace, taking you from modern Atlantic cities and ancient imperial capitals through rugged mountain passes and deep into the Sahara Desert. You’ll explore labyrinthine medinas, sleep under the stars in a Berber camp, barter in vibrant souks, and relax in a serene blue-washed mountain town. It’s a comprehensive journey that captures the essence of Morocco’s rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture.
Your Moroccan journey begins in the bustling economic heart of Casablanca. After being greeted and transferred to your hotel, you can settle in and relax. If time allows, we highly recommend an optional visit to the magnificent Hassan II Mosque, an architectural wonder that stands proudly over the Atlantic Ocean, offering a profound welcome to the country.
After an early breakfast, we depart for Morocco’s dignified capital, Rabat. Here, we will explore the iconic Kasbah of the Oudayas with its serene blue-and-white streets, the majestic Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and the historic Hassan Tower. Our journey then continues to the imperial city of Meknes, where we will admire the colossal Bab Mansour gate and the city’s formidable historic ramparts. We arrive by evening in Fes, the nation’s ancient cultural and spiritual center.
Today is dedicated to unlocking the secrets of Fes el-Bali, the world’s largest living medieval medina and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Led by a local expert, you will navigate its labyrinthine alleyways to discover the ancient University of Al-Qarawiyyin, the vibrant souks, and the iconic Chouara tanneries, where leather is still dyed using age-old methods. The afternoon is yours to further explore, shop for crafts, or perhaps indulge in a traditional hammam.
We embark on a full-day excursion north into the verdant Rif Mountains. Our destination is the breathtakingly beautiful Chefchaouen, the famed ‘Blue City,’ where every alleyway and building is washed in shades of azure and cobalt. You’ll have time to wander through the central Uta el-Hammam Square, visit the Grand Mosque, and for a panoramic view, climb to the Spanish Mosque lookout. In the late afternoon, we return to Fes.
Today, we journey southeast towards the Sahara Desert. Our scenic route includes stops in the unique alpine-style town of Ifrane, known as “Morocco’s Switzerland,” and the Cedar Forest of Azrou, where you can spot troops of native Barbary macaques. The landscape transforms as we continue through the fossil-rich landscapes around Erfoud, finally arriving at the edge of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. Here, you will mount a camel for a magical trek into the desert to your authentic Berber camp for the night.
Awake early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the dunes. After a traditional breakfast at the camp, you will have the unique opportunity to visit nomadic Berber families, sharing tea and learning about their traditional desert lifestyle. The afternoon is free to relax, embark on an adventurous 4×4 desert excursion, or simply enjoy the serene beauty of the Sahara before another night under the stars in Merzouga.
We bid farewell to the desert and travel to Rissani, the historic birthplace of the ruling dynasty, to experience its vibrant local market. Our journey then continues to the stunning Todra Gorges, where colossal canyon walls rise 300 meters high, creating a paradise for climbers and photographers. We end the day in the dramatic scenery of the Dades Valley, the famed ‘Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs,’ where you will spend the night.
After breakfast, we explore the lush Skoura Oasis, dotted with ancient kasbahs, including the well-preserved Kasbah Amridil. The adventure continues as we cross the mighty High Atlas Mountains via the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with countless opportunities to stop and admire the ever-changing landscapes. By evening, we descend into the vibrant energy of Marrakech, where you can get your first taste of the legendary Jemaa el-Fna square as it comes alive at night.
A local guide will help you discover the essential treasures of Marrakech. The tour includes the elegant Koutoubia Mosque, the ornate Saadian Tombs, the exquisite Bahia Palace, and the city’s captivating souks. In the afternoon, find peace in the lush, cobalt-blue Majorelle Gardens. The day culminates back in the pulsating Jemaa el-Fna square, a mesmerizing theatre of street performers, storytellers, and food stalls.
Embark on a day trip to the magnificent Ouzoud Waterfalls, North Africa’s highest cascades. Here, you can enjoy scenic walks along the tiers of falls, observe the playful local monkeys, or take a refreshing boat ride near the base. The powerful sight and sound of the plunging water provide a perfect natural interlude before returning to Marrakech for a free evening.
We travel west to the charming port city of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. With its fortified walls, vibrant fishing harbor, and artsy, relaxed medina (a UNESCO site), the city is a delight to explore. Walk along the sea ramparts, browse countless artisan workshops, and feast on incredibly fresh seafood at the port. The city’s unique atmosphere has long been a muse for artists and musicians.
Enjoy a leisurely morning in Essaouira for some last-minute exploration, souvenir shopping, or a final stroll along the beach. At the appointed time, you will be transferred to the airport (in Marrakech or Casablanca, depending on your flight), marking the end of your unforgettable 12-day Moroccan adventure.
